God and Creation

There are various ways in which God separates himself from false gods and idols. One of the major ways is that of creation. God is the creator of all things, and as such, is the governor of all things. The very first sentence of the Bible starts with "In the beginning God created." We also know from Scripture that He is "the Lord who makes all things, who stretches out the heavens all alone, who spreads abroad the earth by [Himself] (Isaiah 44:24) It is evidenced that "all things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made" (John 1:3), and "by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him, and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist" (Colossians 1:16-17). Thus we know that God is the principle creative agent, that all things consist in Him, and without Him, nothing would be. Based upon those scriptures, there are several points at which we must reject the Mormon God.

1. We must reject the teachings of Joseph Smith of which he states that God has heavenly parents, and had to become God (cf. Joseph Smith in History of the Church vol. 6, 305, The Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, 373). If this is the case, the God was not before all things. (cf. Col. 1:17)

2. We must reject the doctrine that God is a contingent being who is subordinate to nature, the inevitable result of a finite God (cf. History of the Church vol. 6, 305). If this is the case, then not all things consist in God, and He is not before all things (cf. Col. 1:17).

3. We must also reject any claim about God that says he cannot create something. Joseph Smith says that God does not have the power to create the spirits of men (History of the Church Vol. 6, 310-11). We must reject that kind of weak God. If this is the case, then God did not create all things, and the Bible is lying (cf. Isaiah 44:24; John 1:3).

4. We must also reject any doctrine that competes with the idea that God alone created the heavens and the earth. The Pearl of Great Price  in the Book of Abraham says that the "Gods", and the Council of the Gods created the heavens and the earth (cf. Abraham Ch. 5). That must be rejected because God is a jealous God, and claims to have done it all by Himself. God proves this to us by saying He doesn't know of any other true Gods out there (Isaiah 44:6-8). If Joseph Smith is correct, then the Bible lies when it says He did it alone (cf. Isaiah 44:24).

On these points, the Mormon God shall be rejected, and the traditional Christian God embraced.
